Trendy OC Eats Worth the Hype: Ahba & Truly Pizza

Hello and happy Saturday!!
If you’re still looking for dinner spots this weekend, I tried two of the trendiest restaurants in Orange County and they were both absolutely worth the hype. Ahba and Truly Pizza are popular for very good reason.

Ahba

I’ve been to Ahba quite a few times now and have yet to be disappointed. Every dip, burger, and drink I’ve tried has been incredible.

Food

Ahba has a small but well-curated menu with an American focus and strong Middle Eastern inspiration. Their most popular entrée is the Ahba Burger, a double wagyu smash topped with caramelized onion, pickled fresno, aioli, and pickles. It is simply an amazing burger and available on both the dinner and brunch menus.

If you’re going for dinner, I truly think you’re missing out if you don’t try one of their small plates as well. Their flavors are carefully layered and always extremely well thought out. The seasonal burrata, dips, and braised lamb are some of my favorites.

If you’re going for brunch, you’re in very good hands. The Harissa Toast, served with harissa, caramelized onion, egg, bacon, tahini, mint, cilantro, parsley, and fennel, has been my absolute favorite. The Breakfast Burrito also sets itself apart with its blend of oaxaca cheese, bajas, and Ahba sauce. Both options deliver powerful and unique flavors that are hard to find anywhere else.

Location & Style

Ahba has two locations: one in Costa Mesa and one in Laguna Beach. Parking is equally tricky at both but worth the effort. The Costa Mesa location is larger and often hosts fun events like wine and jazz nights. The Laguna Beach location has a smaller, more coastal feel that I recommend for first-timers. It is also situated directly to the right of the cutest speakeasy, Helen’s, set like a modern home with drinks being served right out of the living room area.

Ahba is one of my favorite restaurants in Orange County not only for the food but also for its young, vibrant atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to go out with friends, even if you are only going out for drinks and atmosphere. Everything, from the Instagram aesthetic to the table décor, flows together seamlessly. I would not be surprised to see them expand across California in the future.

Truly Pizza

I don’t think many people in South Orange County have not heard of Truly Pizza. Videos of their uniquely shaped pizzas and stunning vine-covered patio have gone viral more than once, and their packed reservation list proves it. Luckily, I was able to visit and finally give it a try.

Food

Their pizzas are just as good, if not better, than they look on Instagram. We started with the garlic pull-apart bread, which was an incredible way to kick off the meal.

The star of the night was their American Artisan Square Pizzas, especially the Sweet and Spicy. It comes topped with California red sauce, fresh and whole-milk mozzarella, hot soppressata, stracciatella, Mike’s Hot Honey, and fresh basil. I love any pizza with hot honey, but Truly does it like no other. This one is a must-order.

Location & Style

Truly Pizza is located right in the heart of Dana Point, walking distance to a beautiful beach lookout, a large parking structure, and Bruster’s Ice Cream. A perfect combination if you ask me. Much of Truly’s space, including the bar, is a gorgeous outdoor patio covered in greenery and fairy lights. It is a beautiful setting for a warm California evening and makes an excellent date spot.
